History
Covenant Christian Ministries Church of Marietta, GA, was founded based on a vision for ministry by Pastor Frederick T. Anderson. While pastoring a Baptist church in north Georgia, Pastor Anderson saw a greater picture of what the local church was capable of doing for Christ. Through diligent prayer and searching of the scriptures, Pastor Anderson was led to the scripture in Isaiah 42:6 - 7:
“I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light to the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.”
Through obedience, Pastor Anderson named this church Covenant Christian Ministries Church - a people called together for a common purpose for God, in legal contract through the blood of Jesus to win the world for Christ.
The ministry began its first meeting on October 13, 1991, in Bradley Eppinger’s funeral home with a commitment of twenty (20) people (the pastor’s wife, son, sister, brothers, and other faithful friends). After worshipping in the funeral home for three (3) months, the ministry held a couple of services at the Holiday Inn and Sheraton hotels before moving to the Hilton hotel on Windy Hill Road, Marietta, GA. We worshipped at the Hilton for approximately nine (9) months and then leased the 528 N. Marietta Parkway property. In celebration, a Covenant convoy with full police escort paraded from the Hilton to N. Marietta Parkway on December 6, 1992, having only thirty-five (35) people on our membership role.
We leased this church facility until October, 1993, and then mortgaged that property, a church building, and two old houses (which have since been removed). Between 1998 and 2001, the church purchased twelve additional properties to allow for expansion of the ministry. These purchases include 170 Fairground St., our current worship location. The church is steadily growing. CCM's work force currently consists of approximately 15 full-time and several part-time employees. We currently offer two(2) services weekly along with other periodic fellowship meetings. A Covenant Reminder television broadcast, was aired on various stations beginning in 1997. In 2005, A Covenant Reminder broadcast was voted the best faith-based program aired on AIB.
In the fall of 1994, we began our Christian academy in the basement of the church, starting from K3 - 6th grade with an enrollment of seventeen (17) students (twenty-three at the end of that year). During the summer of 1995, we erected a five-classroom, modular facility at 268 N. Fairground St. The first graduate of CCMA matriculated in June of 1999. In order to accommodate the growth of our student population, four additional modular structures were purchased in the summer of 2001. CCMA became fully accredited through ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) in December, 2003, and SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) in May, 2004. Accreditation was renewed in April 2008 through 2013. During the 2004-2005 academic year, CCMA gained SEVIS approval (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System). This allows the school to issue I-20 forms and accept international students. Thus far, we have had students from France, Jamaica, Haiti, Bahamas, Canada, Serbia, Dominican Republic, Cameroon, the Netherlands, and Nigeria. In 2005, the academy also expanded its outreach with the incorporation of an Elite Basketball Team. Recruits have enrolled from various places to compete at a national level against other prep school teams. During the 2007 - 2008 season, the Elite team became the NACA National Elite Division champions.
Covenant Christian Ministries has a dynamic Helps Ministry which facilitates the overall operation of the ministry at large. The audiovisual team captures all services and special events for production of our television broadcast. The tapes/tape series, once recorded, are handed off to the bookstore for duplication and packaging. The publication team designs the tape covers and is responsible for the majority of all printed materials for the ministry.
The music ministry initiates praise and worship at every service. As ushers direct congregants to varied parking/seating, the greeters stand at the door to welcome all who enter. The nursery staff cheerfully attends to the younger children to allow uninterrupted attention to the Word. During our midweek services, the youth department ministers to the needs of our youth in services especially designed to meet their needs .
The baptism/communion committee assists with baptismal candidates and the preparation of the sacraments for monthly communion service. The altar ministry shares vital scriptural insight to all who respond to the various altar calls. For those possessing in-depth computer skills, there is the I.T. Team (Information Technology). They provide varied technology services from minor computer repair and software installation to hardware upgrades, internet connections and network installation.
Our special projects team organizes and disseminates information for all major events. Hospitality works in conjunction with special projects to provide quality food services for every occasion. The fitness ministry became operational in May, 2002, and provides organized sports activities including co-ed volleyball, softball, bowling, men’s basketball, etc. Various activities, which focus on the family, allow for wholesome Christian fellowship and positively impact the lives of all involved. In 2004 through missions, the first Covenant Christian Ministries Academy - Uganda was erected.
Periodically, Pastor and Mrs. Anderson hold meetings to address the special needs of men, women, married and singles. The annual picnics are enjoyed by members of all ages. Covenant Christian Ministries Church is a vibrant ministry with operational activities almost every day of the week. In 2004, to allow for continued growth and expansion of ministry, a contract was placed on 8 acres, 838 Powder Springs. The church awaits final restitution in its battle with the city to move forward in ministry. The goal is to begin construction of the new facility in the very near future. As we perfect the saints to walk in a covenant relationship with God, all will know that there is ministry in Marietta!!!
God remains faithful and continues to show Himself strong in the life of Pastor Anderson and Covenant Christian Ministries Church. We stand in awe as we watch the vision become a reality.
