How do I receive power in my life to be an effective witness for Christ?

As Christians, the Holy Spirit (which is the Spirit of God living on the inside of us) gives us power to be an effective witness for Christ. Jesus recommended that all believers should receive the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the criteria or prerequisite to receiving the Holy Spirit is that we must first be a believer. The Holy Spirit is characterized in the Bible as rivers of living water flowing out of our belly. This river experience is the flow of the Spirit of God out of our belly, which is our spirit (inner) man. (John 7:37-39)

The function of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer is to dwell & abide within us, to be our Comforter and give us clarity & understanding in the word. (John 14:15-17, 26) The Holy Spirit also empowers us to be who we say we are - an effective witness for Christ. As a witness, the evidence should reflect in our life style that we are sold out to Christ! The evidence of our witness starts at home first and then it spreads abroad. (Acts 1:8)

Now that we understand the inter workings and functions of the Holy Spirit, how then do we receive? It is simple! If you are a professed believer of Christ, then all you have to do is ask God to empower you with His Spirit. The Bible assures us in Luke 11:9-13 that all we have to do is ask and it shall be given. For everyone who asks, receives. Have faith and know that God will give you exactly what you ask Him for! The word says, "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, according to your Word, you said He that believes on me as the scripture has said out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water . and this you spoke of the Spirit. I am a believer, having received Jesus as Lord of my life; now, I desire to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. In your Word, you declare that if ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him? I stand now, asking in faith, that you fill me with the Holy Ghost. According to your Word, all I have to do is ask, and it shall be given . for everyone that asks, receives. Based on that Word, I believe I receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, now, and will speak forth with new tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. In Jesus' name, Amen.
